Doors open at 4:00pm | Presentation begins at 4:30pm
Go behind the scenes with Pacific Northwesterner Aaron Draplin, of Draplin Design Co. (DDC), and hear his harrowing accounts of making their first book. From the contracts to the scheming, the pagination to the design, and the tears to the nightmares...he will tell us what it’s like to cram your whole half-wit career into 256 pages.
DDC rolls up its sleeves daily on a number of projects related to the Print, Identity and Illustration categories taking pride in their high level of craftsmanship and quality that keeps us up late into the wet Portland night. They design stuff for Coal Headwear, Union Binding Co., Richmond Fontaine, Esquire, Nike, Wired, Dinosaur Jr, Timberline, Eaux Claires, Poler, Incase, Cobra Dogs, Jill Soloway, Sasquatch! Music Festival, Rhett Miller, Old 97s, Nixon Watches, Patagonia, Target, Ford Motor Company and even the Obama Administration, if you can believe that. In addition to their book, they co-created Field Notes with our older brother Jim Coudal, and our memo books are sold in over 1,800 stores nationwide, with limited-edition special editions shipped quarterly to a booming subscriber list.
